■ About Yonaguni Island Aragonite Products

Our encounter with the fossilized coral of Yonaguni Island began when an Public aquarium asked us to find the ideal coral-derived calcium supplement for sea turtles. The supplier specifically prepared custom grain sizes tailored for Reef tank use.

Through three years of aquarium testing—using this material as substrate and reactor media—we confirmed that it appropriately maintains the essential balance of elements vital for coral husbandry, including calcium, magnesium, iron, strontium, potassium, iodine, bromine, and manganese.

The sand is bright white and reflects light effectively, which helps enhance the pigmentation of hard corals. Highly porous and easily dissolved, incorporating it as substrate in a reef tank or as media in a calcium reactor provides a well-balanced supply of the nutrients necessary for coral growth.

Another major feature is its extremely low content of organic matter, phosphorus, and nitrogen, which are common causes of nuisance algae. It is ideal not only for hard corals (SPS and LPS), but also for soft corals, marine fish, and land hermit crabs.

■About Fossilized Coral from Yonaguni Island

The fossilized coral of Yonaguni Island, Okinawa, was uplifted by crustal movement approximately 100,000 years ago, exposing it to the surface. It originates from remarkably young fossilized hard corals. As a result, it retains its porous, massive structure, preserving the aragonite crystal arrangement from when it was alive underwater.

Furthermore, while older limestone or foreign aragonite sands often contain mixed debris such as fish bones, sea urchin spines, and shell fragments, Yonaguni fossilized coral is a pure aragonite sand derived exclusively from hard corals.

Fossilized coral of this kind is unique to Yonaguni Island and unmatched anywhere else in the world. Elemental analysis has confirmed that it contains over 70 rich minerals.
